Artist's Statement about this work
One of my favorite summer activities is dining al fresco in the cool air of the mid-day shade or evening breezes. Whether it involves sharing a meal with friends and family or the opportunity to read the paper over a cup of chai, the very idea evokes feelings of relaxation. Pedaling to the location on a bicycle enhances the feeling of carefree summer days. When I passed this scene in the Sugarhouse area of SLC, it captured the treasure of the shady al fresco experience. I quickly snapped several shots. When I viewed the photos later, I noticed not only the setting, but also the wonderful reflections in the windows. As the diners relaxed in the shade, a whole other world was being reflected in the windows. It had to become a painting!
